Weinritter to Convert Historic SA Office Building
San Antonio real estate developer Weinritter Realty wants to convert the eight-story Commerce Building office tower to residential. The company acquired the building last year in a 1031 exchange with real estate firm Harris Bay.
The San Antonio Business Journal reports Weinritter is aiming to start sometime in 2025. The company says it wants to redevelop the building as apartments for tax purposes, but sell it after a few years as a condominium building. The 44,000-square-foot building, built in 1902, was the headquarters for Alamo National Bank
Last year, a report from the National Bureau of Economic Research listed the Commerce Building as one of the 20 properties in the city as the most amenable to multifamily conversion.
San Antonio-based B&A Architects is on the design team, which is also being advised by local architect Charles John.
Weinritter is no stranger to repurposing buildings. The group rehabbed the Best Western hotel in St. Paul Square.
