Wegmans Takes 82K SF at 770 Broadway for First Manhattan Store

RIPCO Real Estate arranged Wegmans Food Markets first Manhattan location and second New York store totaling 82,000 square feet at Vornado Realty Trust’s 770 Broadway, occupying the full block between 8th and 9th streets. The store is set to open in the second half of 2023.

Wegmans has entered into a 30-year lease with Vornado for the site previously occupied by the Astor Place Kmart. The lease came after reaching an agreement with Transformco to buy out Kmart’s lease at Astor Place.

“We were privileged to work alongside Wegmans and Vornado to arrange this landmark Manhattan retail transaction,” said vice chairman Gene Spiegelman of RIPCO. “This transaction represents the best of New York City’s future with Wegmans’ long-term commitment to deliver its reputation for quality and customer service to Manhattan.”

The grocery chain opened its first store in the city at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the fall of 2019.
