Waterfront Restaurant Plans Hit Snag
San Diego Unified Port District’s planned replacement for Anthony’s Fish Grotto has hit a snag. The 71-year-old waterfront restaurant was slated to be replaced by a $13-million, three-restaurant facility proposed by Brigantine Restaurants.
The California Coastal Commission halted plans, citing issues relating to public access, architectural design and additional coverage over the water. A 10-day appeal period ends Feb. 21, and the design and appeal could come up at the commission’s March or May meetings. The spat between the two public entities could delay the project months or years.
The proposed 37,225-square-foot facility would include Brigantine on the Bay, Miguel’s Cocina, Ketch & Grill Taps, and a walkup gelato and coffee bar. To accommodate the restaurants, the dock would be enlarged to 3,370 square feet, and a second-floor public viewing deck, as well as public walkway surrounding the development would be added.
