Water Tower Place Implements Curfew for Younger Shoppers

Brookfield Properties’ Water Tower Place shopping mall along the Magnificent Mile has imposed a chaperone rule for customers under 18 on Friday and Saturday evenings. The adult supervision rule was imposed after an incident over New Year’s weekend in which a disorderly group nearby caused the center to close early.

“In an effort to eliminate disruptive behavior by unsupervised youth, we made the difficult decision to implement a curfew program,” Mitch Feldman, senior general manager of Water Tower Place, said in a statement.

Ald. Brian Hopkins, whose district includes the Magnificent Mile, endorsed the supervision program.

“For over 40 years, Water Tower Place has been a Michigan Avenue staple for Chicagoans and our millions of tourists,” Hopkins said in a statement. “We are fully supportive of our community partner, and commend their decision to enforce a PGR Program. We believe this will help benefit the entire community.”
