Watchtower Sign Comes Down
Workers took the iconic “Watchtower” sign down from the roof of 25-30 Columbia Heights in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.
For more than 40 years, the bright 15-foot tall letters glowed over the waterfront headquarters of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, which sold the complex last year to Columbia Heights Associates, a joint venture of the Kushner Cos., CIM Group and LIVWRK. The developers plan to top off their redevelopment of the site with their own sign.
The Watchtower sign will travel to the organization’s new home in Warwick, NY. “The letters will be going into storage,” a spokesman for the Jehovah’s Witnesses told the Brooklyn Eagle. “Presently we don’t have any plans to repurpose them.”
