Washington State Plans to Repurpose Weyerhaeuser Campus
The Washington State legislature has unanimously approved funding in the 2022-23 budget to identify options for the transformation of the Weyerhaeuser Campus in Federal Way WA into a public innovation and education resource center. The former headquarters, now called Woodbridge Corporate Park, would become a dedicated space for learning, workforce training and economic development to support the south Puget Sound region.
The iconic 340,000-square-foot building was built in 1971 and occupied by more than 1,000 employees, but was abandoned by Weyerhaeuser in 2016 for a new facility in downtown Seattle. The property was sold to Industrial Realty Group, which has worked to preserve the architecturally significant campus.
“This project is a huge and historic investment that will reimagine our local workforce, economy and community and provide valuable opportunities for youth,” said Sen. Claire Wilson in a news release. “I’m thrilled to see this collaborative, transformative project funded in our budget and passed with bipartisan support to help our community flourish.”
