Commanders’ New Ownership a Done Deal; New Stadium a Question Mark
Josh Harris’ $6.05-billion deal for the Washington Commanders has been ratified by NFL owners. With the new ownership will come a new stadium–just not right away.
“What I love about Washington is it has a lot of incredibly passionate football fans and they want to talk about a lot of things, and obviously [a new stadium] is one of them,” Harris said in remarks to reporters after the deal was finalized. “We’re going to be focused on that. But right now, it’s Day 1 and it’s going to take a while to unpack what really makes sense.”
Harris, who also owns the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, will focus in the near term on improving the Commander’ business operations, the Washington Business Journal reported.
It’s up in the air as to where that new stadium will eventually be built, the Business Journal reported. Although a new facility on the site of RFK Stadium is a possibility, Michell Rales, Harris’ largest partner in the Commanders deal, told the Washington Post he has “no idea where we’re going to build the stadium.”
