Wanted: Zoning Approval for 500-Foot-Tall Texas Odyssey

If a group of developers has its way, a 500-foot tall Ferris wheel could be built just south of downtown Dallas. Dubbed the Texas Odyssey, the wheel would be larger than the famous London Eye, and twice as tall as the Texas Star at Dallas’ Fair Park.

The developers filed a zoning request with the city of Dallas to build the observational wheel on Riverfront Boulevard near Interstate 35E, along the banks of the Trinity River. According to David Taggart, one of the developers, the seven-acre site on which the wheel would be built is part of 60 acres he and his group have under contract. The seven acres would also include retail and restaurants.

“We looked at San Antonio and Houston, and some other cities,” he told the Dallas Morning News. “Everything came together in Dallas, both in terms of visitor numbers and where they congregate.”
