Wanted: Proposals to Build New Travis County Courthouse
On Feb. 20, 2018, Travis County commissioners voted to solicit proposals from private developers interested in both building a new Travis County courthouse, and offering land on which that building might sit. The project in question is for a new facility for the county’s civil and family courts, and the RFP is looking for a build-to-suit proposal that will result in a 430,000-square-foot facility, to be completed before 2023.
Peter Jansen, Michael McShea and Jerry Frey with CBRE are handling the solicitation process on behalf of the county. The deadline for response is April 9, 2018, and the county expects to select a winning bid and negotiate a deal by summer 2018, according to a report from the Austin Monitor. Travis County has been attempting to replace the 87-year-old Heman Marion Sweatt Courthouse at 1000 Guadalupe in Austin for more than a decade.
