Walsh Tapped to Build South Loop Mid-Rise Apartments

Joining a parade of multifamily developments in the South Loop will be Alta Grand Central, a rental property developed by the Chicago office of Atlanta-based Wood Partners. Walsh Construction has been tapped as general contractor on the project, which entails a pair of 14-story mid-rise towers.

Alta Grand Central will mark the second recent collaboration of Walsh, Wood and architectural firm Pappageorge Haymes Partners. The three firms recently completed Alta Roosevelt, a 33-story apartment tower just south of the Alta Grand Central site.

The new project will feature 346 apartments, spanning 368,000 square feet. It’s expected to be complete in 2020.

Alta Grand Central joins the list of Walsh Construction’s current work in Chicago, that includes the 60-story Wolf Point East high-rise, The Paragon residential tower at 1326 S. Michigan Ave., and the renovation of the old Cook County Hospital building into a mixed-use development.
