Walmart’s Automatic Pickup Machine (APM) – Order Up?
With the holidays right around the corner, one Walmart store located in Bentonville, AR is testing a giant tower that spouts out online orders, in the same fashion that a vending machine works.
To offer customers the most timely delivery for in-store pick-up of products, the massive machine houses products inside until an online order is made. Once a customer makes an online purchase, they receive an order number that they enter into the “vending machine” at the store. Then, the product drops out and they’re ready to roll!
Walmart had to remove part of the ceiling to accommodate the tower, but if this test run receives positive feedback, the company may continue with the new service in other stores.
