Walmart to Texas: We’re Spending $277 Million

Walmart Stores Inc. announced it would be spending $277 million in Texas during 2018, with plans to remodel more than 40 stores and build four new ones. The investment will also include the addition of in-store and online tools.

The giant retailer is planning to spend more money in Texas than any other state this year. The next largest budget is $200 million, which will be used to upgrade Florida stores. Texas is Walmart’s largest state, with 508 Walmart stores, 85 Sam’s Club stores, 19 distribution centers and 171,796 employees.

In the U.S. this year, Walmart is planning to open less than 15 new Supercenters and 10 Neighborhood Markets. Four of the new stores will be in Texas: Fort Worth, Fulshear, El Paso and Vidor.
