Walmart Plans $265M Investment in Texas Store Improvements
Walmart Inc. announced plans to spend an estimated $264.9 million in Texas stores during 2019. The investment will be directed toward remodeling 54 stores throughout the state, along with a launch and continued expansion of several customer-focused initiatives.
- Some of the initiatives that will be launched and/or expanded in the Lone Star State include the following:
- Grocery pickup. The giant retailer will expand the popular online-shopping/grocery pick-up option to 74 stores by the end of 2019.
- Grocery delivery. Walmart will add the delivery service to 84 stores this year.
- Pickup towers. Pickup towers are 16-foot-tall, high-tech vending machines that fulfill a customer’s online order, once he/she arrives at the store. The goal is to add 82 such towers across the state.
Additional improvements will include expansion of autonomous shelf scanners to 25 stores, FAST-Unloader to 137 stores, and the Autonomous Floor Scrubber to 171 stores stateside.
