Walgreens Expands Chicago Footprint with New Tech Center
Deerfield, IL-based Walgreens is expanding its current downtown Chicago office to roughly 114,000 square feet at Madison Capital’s Sullivan Center, by creating a new technology center of excellence. The retailer plans to add 300 technology positions, primarily on the retail pharmacy technology team.
Walgreens’ Alex Gourlay says, “Chicago is where Walgreens began as a single drugstore in 1901, and expanding our downtown presence will help us retain and attract the best talent to continue developing our digital and technology capabilities.”
Walgreens plans to build out roughly 20,000 square feet of additional space on two floors in the historic Sullivan Center building at 36 S. Wabash Ave. The location is already home to Walgreens digital, mobile and e-commerce technology teams. Walgreens also employs more than 3,500 people in Chicago, where it operates 136 drugstores.
