Walbrook Junction Shopping Center in Baltimore Gets $2M Revamp

Walbrook Junction, a community co-owned shopping center in the Walbrook neighborhood in West Baltimore, has undergone significant renovations since it was purchased in early 2021.

ChicagoTREND, a commercial real estate development firm, has revamped the shopping center as part of a $2.2 million overhaul, that also included a crowdfunding push to raise $332,500 in small investor support. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is supporting Chicago TREND’s efforts to establish a subdivision of the open space for smaller tenants.

ChicagoTrend is also reconfiguring the largest space within the property that was previously filled by Rite Aid. “Within the last six months, we’ve had crucial upgrades at Walbrook Junction that are good news for our 130 local investors and Walbrook residents,” says Lyneir Richardson, CEO of Chicago TREND.

“With funding provided by Mayor Brandon Scott and the Baltimore Development Corporation, we’ve completed the installation of a new roof for the entire property, enhanced the façade, repaved the parking lot, installed a state-of-the-art security system, helped a Black entrepreneur to open a high-quality laundromat, and extended the lease of the grocery store.”
