Wal-Mart Introduces Uniquely J E-Commerce Brand
Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s e-commerce business, Jet.com, is going upscale with a newly minted version called Uniquely J. The giant retailer plans to begin selling apparel from such specialty online retailers as ModCloth and Bonobos, as well as incorporating new higher margin private-label grocery items in an effort to capture more metro Millennial consumers.
The goal of the Hoboken, NJ-based division is to differentiate itself with specialty goods not available elsewhere, and moves it away from Jet.com’s foundation as a discount retailer. The new wrinkles in the coming months include selling roughly 60 food and household products, with future additions to encompass baby, beauty and pet products. The shift is expected to give shoppers a premium option beyond the retailers’ existing store-brand selection.
Wal-Mart bought Jet.com for $3.3 billion last year.
