W.T. Waggoner Building’s Future: Sandman Signature Hotel

The future of the W.T. Waggoner Building, which sold to Northland Properties in August 2019, will be as a hotel. Specifically, the Canadian ownership will develop the 119,846-square-foot building at 810 Houston St. into a new Sandman Signature Hotel. Once complete, the hotel will be the second of its kind in the United States.

The 20-story building will be renovated from office space to a minimum of 240 rooms and 1,500 square feet of meeting space. The developer requested financial assistance of up to $8 million for public improvements associated with the project, including landscaping, utilities and historical preservation and restoration.

The improvements will be reimbursed by the city of Fort Worth’s Lancaster Tax Incremental Financing District, contingent upon performance requirements. For example, the reimbursement won’t kick in until the hotel has been fully operational for two years.
