Vornado Quietly Scraps Pier 92 Development

Vornado Realty Trust’s plans to redevelop trade show space on Pier 94 in Manhattan’s West Side have changed after the discovery of structural issues with neighboring Pier 92, Crain’s New York Business reported.

The developer and the New York City Economic Development Corp. (NYEDC) have decided to drop the Pier 92 project and instead focus on building a new movie studio on Pier 94. Vornado is finalizing a new 99-year lease for the property with the city. Demolition of the existing structure on Pier 94 is set to begin in the fall, and construction of the film studio is expected to be completed by late 2025. Pier 92 may be converted into parking for the new film production site.

The move comes as another high-profile film production facility, Wildflower Studios, backed by actor Robert De Niro, is being developed in Astoria, Queens. The seven-story studio is expected to be completed later this year and will feature 11 sound stages.
