Violet Crown Trail Could Spread Further South
The Violet Crown hike-bike trail, which will eventually stretch from downtown Austin to northern Hays County, could end up with an extension. The San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance, which is based in the Hays County seat of San Marcos, TX, proposed Emerald Crown Trail, a potential regional hike-and-bike path, which would stretch 30 miles, and link San Marcos to Austin.
The proposal is still in early stages, with no specific route or price tag, though the Alliance’s Mark Taylor indicated that the goal was to encourage people to “get from one place to another without having to get into a motor vehicle,” he told the Austin American-Statesman.
The National Park Services’ Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program agreed to provide technical, outreach and planning support. Furthermore, Taylor indicated that eminent domain will not be used to secure the right-of-way.
