Village Theatre Building Giving Way to Condos
Almost 11 years after it closed, the Village Theatre building and another structure on Clark Street and North Avenue will soon be demolished to make way for a new condominium development.
The new 10-story project, 1550 on the Park, is located in the Old Town area and will feature 32 units for sale, ranging from two-bedroom floor plans to four-bedroom penthouses. The site also includes a former Elly’s Pancake House.
While demolition permits were authorized for both buildings, the developers (Golub & Co. and CIM Group) will reserve the Village Theatre building’s brick and terra-cotta façade.
The theater, a well-known “art house,” was built in 1916, and underwent several name changes before receiving the Village Theatre moniker. The showplace closed in March 2007, and developers took control of the site after another condo project failed.
