VIA Metropolitan Moving Forward on MXU Development Plans

VIA Metropolitan Transit is moving forward on plans to develop mixed-use projects near two transportation centers located east and west of downtown San Antonio. The transit system is focused on re-use plans for land above its Robert Thompson Transit Center, between the Alamodome and Sunset Station, and at the former Scobey complex, near the Villa Centro Plaza station west of Interstate 35.

VIA put in a grant proposal to the U.S. department of Transportation for funding assistance of the Thompson site. “We are in many respects reliant on that funding to provide the seed capital for the rest of the project,” VIA’s Jeffrey Arndt told the San Antonio Business Journal. If approved, the grant will help fund conversion of the aging center currently used for special events into a full-time terminal with a 300-unit housing component.
