Veterans Affordable Housing Community Opens in Boston

Mayor Michelle Wu and Boston Housing Authority Administrator Kenzie Bok celebrated the opening of 34 East Springfield Street, a 100% affordable housing community for veterans in Boston’s South End.

The project, developed by MPZ Development LLC, transformed a vacant four-unit Boston Housing Authority property into five affordable one-bedroom apartments for formerly homeless veterans. Funding sources included HOME funding through The City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Housing.

Residents will have access to community services, including Boston Medical Center and the MBTA Silver Line. The redevelopment involved collaboration with the Worcester Square Area Neighborhood Association and project abutters, with MPZ preserving historic features while making modernization and accessibility updates.

“Today, we’re here to celebrate a win for Boston’s homeless veterans, and to welcome five new residents into their homes,” said BHA Administrator Kenzie Bok. “This project restores a historic South End Brownstone and gives its residents the housing stability and supportive services that they need to thrive here in Boston.”
