Verizon Adds 190K SF to Boston Sublease Space Supply

Verizon Communications Inc. recently listed about 190,000 square feet of space at 100 Causeway St. above Boston’s North Station as available for sublease, reported the Boston Business Journal. The move would significantly shrink its real estate in the building that bears the company’s logo at its summit.

In 2018, the company signed a 20-year lease for 440,000 square feet at 100 Causeway St., part of Boston Properties Inc. and Delaware North’s The Hub on Causeway project. Last year, however, it agreed to sublease 109,000 square feet to Alphabet Inc. life sciences subsidiary Verily. Verizon now intends to give up space on the building’s 19th through 22nd floors and 27th through 29th floors.

The Business Journal reported that the listing comes at a time when Boston is seeing a record amount of sublease space available, according to new research from JLL, as the hybrid-work revolution collides with broader economic concerns. As of the end of March, there was more than 3.8 million square feet for sublease in the city, JLL found.
