Venture Capital Investment Increases Q1

Venture capitalists invested $13.9 billion in 1,104 deals nationally in Q1 2017, a 15% increase in dollars deployed, and 2% increase in deal count compared to last quarter. This was the 13th consecutive quarter of more than $10 billion in venture capital invested in a single quarter, according to the latest VC report from Cushman & Wakefield.

The Internet industry received the highest level of funding of 17 industries tracked, attracting $5.2 billion.

In San Diego, venture capitalists invested $202 million in 32 deals in Q1 2017, compared to $412 million in 32 deals at the same time a year ago. The healthcare industry received the highest level of funding of six industries tracked in San Diego, capturing $144 million in Q1 2017.

Funding totals:

  • San Francisco had the most deals at 212, and received $3.5 billion in funding
  • Silicon Valley‘s 113 deals captured $2.7 billion
  • New York Metro had 154 deals funded for $1.5 billion
  • New England had 109 deals funded for $1.9 billion
