The Texas Research and Technology Foundation (TRTF) is set to begin work on its Velocity TX campus next month, when it starts renovating the Merchant Ice Complex near the Alamodome.

The Merchant complex, currently a collection of old buildings, will be transformed into 49,687 square feet of office space. Completion of the $4.5 million project is slated for February 2020, according to records obtained by the San Antonio Business Journal.

The TRTF established Velocity TX as its innovation arm. It has served as an incubator for tech companies from Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica, Argentina, Peru and India. More start-ups are expected to take advantage of Velocity soon.

The TRTF has said it expects the Velocity renovation will be a catalyst for development of the East Side area.
