El Capri group buy westside Phoenix Sears to convert to concert venue

Vacant Westside Sears Building To Become Entertainment Venue

Another Phoenix mall will transform into something much different. Over half of the town’s regional malls have been repurposed in the past five years, and the west side Desert Sky Mall is no different. The owners of El Club Capri have bought the vacant Sears building and plan to transform the 120,000-square-foot space into a Latino-focused entertainment venue.

The Sears property was sold for $7.13 million. The seller was New York-based Seritage SRC Finance LLC.

Club Capri Real Estate owns the 40-year-old El Club Capri entertainment venue for Latino concerts, dances, parties, weddings, and quinceañeras located at 2135 E. Van Buren in Phoenix. They also own the Latino-themed Aztec Theatre (in photo) in San Antonio, Texas. The Phoenix Business Journal reports the group has always wanted to open a similar venue on the West side of Phoenix.

The new venue is expected to open by the end of 2024 or in the first quarter of 2025.
