UTSA Breaks Ground on $42M Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence

University of Texas at San Antonio began construction on the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence (RACE), a $41.5-million athletic training center that will help draw student athletes to the university’s Division I programs, while providing recreational sports resources to San Antonio residents. The nearly 95,000-square-foot facility is anticipated to take 14 months to complete, with opening slated for summer, 2021.

RACE is situated on close to 11 acres near the southwest corner of USTA’s Main Campus, on Babcock Drive, near Loop 1604. Upon completion, the facility will offer 7,000 square feet of academic space, 14,000 square feet of strength and conditioning spaces, a 7,500-square-foot locker room, meeting rooms, practice fields and a sports medicine center.

Populous and MarmonMok are the architects and Joeris Construction is the general contractor. Project Control is the project manager.
