Utah to Receive Record $11 Billion Investment from Texas Instruments
In what leaders say is the “largest private economic investment in Utah history,” Texas Instruments (TI) is set to invest $11 billion in an expansion of its facility in Lehi, which is just south of Salt Lake City. Governor Spencer Cox says it’s a game changer, “This is not something that is going to benefit us for a year or two – this is going to benefit us for years to come”.
Texas Instruments has been in Lehi for the last 14 months and the investment will build a new 300-millimeter semiconductor wafer fabrication plant (fab) as an extension of its existing facility. The expansion will bring about 800 new TI jobs to Lehi, with salaries averaging $110,000. The new plant will begin construction in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
As part of the incentives from Utah’s Economic Development Tax Increment Financing program, TI could receive up to 30% of new taxes over the next 20 years in post-performance tax credit.
Texas Instruments is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and has operations in more than 30 countries with around 33,000 employees worldwide.
