UT Southwestern Unveils $480M Expansion
In 2014, University of Texas Southwest Medical Center formally opened its $800 million William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital in Dallas’ Medical District. And recently, UT Southwestern unveiled plans to build a 12-story, $480 million third tower at the hospital, to meet what the organization called “greater-than-expected need for specialty care.”
The 30-month long project will add an additional 650,000 square feet to the hospital, as well as 300 more beds, bringing the total number to 760. The expansion will also provide 19 more operating rooms. The hospital’s emergency department, imaging services and parking will be added. The new addition is scheduled for a 2020 opening.
The project is being financed through philanthropic support, as well as bond sales.
