UT Campus Continues as Nation’s Student Housing Construction Leader
The hole’s been dug. It’s time to go vertical on another much-needed student housing project. MDL is planning to fit 555 beds in the 30-story UT West Campus project site in Austin, a campus that needs to accommodate its 66,000 students. The Austin Business Journal reports The University of Texas has 5,522 beds under construction, nearly twice as many as any US college campus.
The 192,000-square-foot Icon, located at 2200 San Antonio St., will take advantage of its 302-foot height by placing all parking in a four-story underground garage. With below-ground parking, the tower will consist of 216 above-ground units from one to five bedrooms
Additional amenities planned at Icon include a rooftop pool, fitness center, game and lounge rooms, a podcast studio and student work spaces.
Groundbreaking took place in April. The project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 1, 2025. Hoar Construction is the builder.
