USDA Chooses KC to Relocate Two Agencies
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has selected the Kansas City region for the home offices of its Economic Research Service (ERS) and National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
Via the General Services Administration, USDA is evaluating multiple Class A office properties for a 120,000-square-foot space to house both agencies.
Noting that USDA and the Federal Reserve already have a significant presence in the region, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Pudue said relocating ERS and NIFA will enable the agencies “to increase efficiencies and effectiveness and bring important resources and manpower closer to all of our customers.”
The Kansas City Area Development Council credited the efforts of dozens of public and private stakeholders in bringing the two agencies to the region. The council noted that along with the existing federal presence, other points in Kansas City’s favor included proximity to 13 land grant universities, and its central location in the country’s agricultural heart.
