US’ Oldest Black-Owned Business Expands with Leased Space in Charlotte, Raleigh
E.E. Ward Moving & Storage Co., the oldest Black-owned business in the country, has expanded its operations to the Carolinas with a 12,500-square-foot lease on Horseshoe Lane in Charlotte and a 15,150-square-foot lease on Transport Drive in Raleigh. TRIPP Commercial, LLC, represented the company in its lease negotiations.
“These two locations are ideal because they provide enough space to house our current operations, as well as enough square footage for future growth,” said Brian Brooks, co-owner of E.E. Ward. “We have been fortunate to work with excellent leasing agents and property managers during the process of finding facilities that are a ‘right fit’ for our operations.”
Columbus, OH-based E.E. Ward Moving Company was founded in 1881 as a stop on the Underground Railroad. From 2014 to 2017 the company experienced a significant demand for moves to and from NC, which aligned with current migration patterns. This, combined with a partnership with Richard Petty Motorsports, prompted the company to open offices in Charlotte and Raleigh.
