US DOT Allocates $4.7B to Renovate NY Penn Station, Washington Union Station

The U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated $4.7 billion to renovate two of Amtrak’s most prominent passenger rail hubs: New York Penn Station and Union Station in Washington, DC. The funds will go to upgrading passenger station infrastructure, streamlining rail service and rebuilding rail bridge infrastructure along the Northeast Corridor.

“The Trump Administration is committed to ushering in the Golden Age of American Rail with our revitalizations of New York Penn Station, Washington Union Station and beyond,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.

Concurrent with the announcement, US DOT also announced $2.04 billion of investments to modernize America’s rail infrastructure, both passenger and freight. Both the $4.7-billion and $2.04-billion allocations will take the form of grants, for which the department has opened applications.

The funds will come from the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail grant program and the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program.
