Urban Renaissance Starts Former County Health Building Renovation in PDX
The renovation of the 10-story former home of the Multnomah County Health Department in Portland’s CBD is underway. Seattle-based Urban Renaissance Group (URG) and Los Angeles-based Gaw Capital USA are revitalizing the property at 426 S.W. Harvey Milk St. into a 100,000-square-foot office.
The investors acquired the former Gladys McCoy Building from the county last year for $9.85 million. Renovation plans include an expanded lobby, modernized elevators, spa-grade showers, lockers, bike storage, a tenant lounge, new HVAC, plumbing and electrical, as well as an 800-foot skylight on the top floor.
The redevelopment is expected to be completed by mid 2020. The building will be renamed the J.K. Gill Building to recognize the J.K. Gill Company, which occupied the building for more than 60 years.
URG’s Tom Kilbane says, “We’re very pleased to re-introduce the J.K. Gill name to the Portland office market. J.K. Gill was the largest distributor of books in the Northwest and the go-to place for school supplies for generations of Portlanders.”
CBRE’s Trevor Kafoury, Al Kennedy and Autumn Brice have the leasing assignment.
