UPS Continues Chicago-Area Expansion with New Package Centers
UPS, one of the world’s largest shipping couriers, is continuing to grow in the Chicago market, with a newly built package center opening soon, and another facility scheduled to open in the fall. Combined, the two facilities will employ 520 people, reported the Chicago Business Journal.
The first packing center is a 178,000-square-foot center at 3740 S. Morgan Street in Bridgeport, which will be supported by a total of 250 workers. The second facility is the same size and will be located at 7800 Austin Avenue in suburban Skokie. That property will open in late September and employ 270 people.
The new package centers follow a tentative collective bargaining agreement UPS reached in July with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union representing about 330,000 UPS employees in the U.S, according to the outlet. UPS has an additional 13 other centers in the Chicago area.
