United Spending $300M on Orlando Airport Upgrades

United plans to build a 354,400-square-foot hangar on undeveloped land at Orlando International Airport, where it will house its aircraft maintenance facilities. The project is estimated to cost up to $300 million. Currently, the airline leases Hangar 407, Hangar 431 and Warehouse 447, where more than 1,000 employees are supported.

The Orlando Business Journal reports the airline will demolish Hangar 431 and vacate Warehouse 447, which is expected to free up space for the airport to use. United will build the new consolidated facility instead of renovating Hangar 431, which would have cost $30 million.

The United lease outlined a two-year construction period, a 30-year post-construction period, and a 10-year extension option.

United will pay $6.7 million in rent during construction, a total of $141.35 million during the 30-year term and a potential $88.12 million during the 10-year option if utilized. United is the seventh-largest airline at Orlando International Airport, totaling 4.36 million passengers in 2023.
