United Center Will Be Used as Distribution Hub in COVID-19 Fight
The city of Chicago will repurpose the United Center, home of the Bulls and Blackhawks, and its surrounding parking lots into a distribution hub to help stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic locally. Both professional franchises suspended their seasons earlier this month after a Bulls player tested positive for the virus.
“Our arena and outside campus will be transformed into a logistics hub where we will be assisting front line food distribution, first responder staging and the collection of critically needed medical supplies,” the Near West Side arena’s ownership, a 50/50 partnership between the Bulls and Blackhawks, said in a statement.
Distribution activities at the United Center reportedly will begin this coming Monday. The arena is less than a mile from Rush University Medical Center, the Respiratory Health Association and the Chicago Office of Emergency Management.
