More Folks at Work in Jefferson County

Though Jefferson County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 6.6% in May was higher than the national average, it was a tick lower than the May 2015 value of 6.8%.

The most recent figures released by the Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation (which includes Hardin, Jefferson and Orange Counties), also showed that employment increased by 1.2% in the region, year over year, with a labor force participation rate of 57.1%.

The largest employment sector in the county, of which Beaumont is the county seat, was Health Care and Social Assistance, which is also on tap to be the fastest-growing industry in the region. Over the next 10 years, the area is anticipated to add 5,728 jobs.
