UMass Amherst Acquires Catholic Center Property for $13M
UMass Amherst, through the UMass Building Authority, has acquired The Newman Catholic Center in Amherst for $12.5 million. Located at 472 North Pleasant St., the property is located at the southeastern gateway entrance to the campus.
The Newman Center will continue its mission of service to the community of UMass. As part of the acquisition agreement, UMass is leasing the existing building back to the center for up to five years. During that time, the Newman Center will build a replacement facility on UMass land that will be ground leased to them.
The campus will reportedly use the Newman Center to address priority space needs at the location, which include instructional and office space.
