ULI Chicago Proposes Transformation for LaSalle Street

Transforming LaSalle Street into the LaSalle Street Landmarks Innovation District is the central recommendation of the Urban Land Institute’s Chicago chapter in a new report. Establishing such a district would reposition LaSalle Street “from the current office monoculture to a true mixed-use district,” ULI Chicago said.

ULI Chicago based its report on the findings of a multi-disciplinary panel of real estate professionals. “Reenergizing Chicago’s iconic LaSalle Street corridor and envisioning a future beyond its storied past as Chicago’s Financial District, is critical for the vitality and economic health of downtown Chicago and the City as a whole,” said Mary Ludgin, ULI Chicago panel chair.

Added Michael Edwards, Chicago Loop Alliance president and CEO, “Many of the recommendations to activate the street; fill vacant storefronts; expand the uses of the street are all consistent with the work of Chicago Loop Alliance and reflective of urban revitalization efforts across the country.”
