U.S. Steel Puts 430-Acre Chicago Site on Market
U.S. Steel put its South Works steel mill site on the market. Cushman & Wakefield has been retained to market the 430-acre site on Chicago’s south side.
The acreage hits the market five months after U.S. Steel and developer McCaffery Interests called a halt to a proposed master plan for the property. The partners had worked for 12 years on a plan calling for 13,000 houses, 17.5 million square feet and a 1,500-slip marina, but the proposal stalled.
U.S. Steel is breaking up the site, which stretches from 79th Street to the Calumet River. Cushman, which has rebranded the property 8080 Lakeshore, is accepting offers over the next couple of months.
