U.S. News Ranks Best Places to Live — and Austin is No. 1

U.S. News released its annual Best Places to Live list — and Texas’ capital city of Austin topped it. In determining its list, U.S. News analyzed 125 metro areas in the United States, and ranked them based on quality of life, the job market, and people’s desire to live there. Austin scored 7.6 overall on a 1-10 scale, with desirability and net migration at 9.0, quality of life at 7.3 and value at 6.7.

Noted U.S. News: “People are drawn to the Texas capital’s music, outdoor spaces and cultural institutions.” And, while home values are escalating, the report pointed to no personal or corporate income tax and low state and local tax rates. However, when it comes to transit, “Austin is among the nation’s worst metro areas,” for it, the report noted.

Meanwhile, Dallas-Fort Worth ranked No. 21 on the list, while Houston ranked at No. 30, and San Antonio at No. 34.
