U.S. Job Openings Jump to Nearly 7.5M in March
Nearly 7.5 million jobs were needing to be filled by U.S. employers at the close of March, as the recovery closes in on the end of its 10th year. The latest Labor Department report shows job openings rose 4.8% from the previous month, and those quitting their jobs dropped.
The number of open jobs now exceed the number of unemployed Americans by 1.2 million. The latest jobs report suggests hiring will remain strong and businesses will need to continue raising pay to attract or retain employees to fill roles.
Total private job openings increased by 363,000, and the number was little-changed for the government sector. Industries experiencing the largest increases included transportation, warehousing, and utilities (+87,000), construction (+73,000), and real estate and rental and leasing (+57,000). Job openings decreased in federal government (-15,000).
