U. of Michigan Will Add $920M Hospital at Campus Medical Center

The University of Michigan’s regents approved a $920-million project to build a 12-story adult hospital at Michigan Medicine, the Ann Arbor campus’ academic medical center. The new 600,000-square-foot facility will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care, a neurological and neurosurgical center, and specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, among other capabilities.

Current University Hospital facilities at Michigan Medicine are running at 90% capacity. “The addition is crucial for our state, our university and the millions of people who rely on us for quality advanced health care,” said university president Mark Schlissel.

Added Michigan Medicine’s David Spahlinger, “The new adult inpatient hospital will allow the relocation of 110 beds currently in semi-private rooms at University Hospital to the new hospital. As a result, all Michigan Medicine inpatient beds will be single private rooms.”

Construction of the new hospital is expected to be completed in 2024.

Connect Chicago Fall 2019 will take place Oct. 29 in Chicago. For more information, or to register, click here.
