TxDot Spending Millions on I-20

The Texas Department of Transportation is shelling out upwards of $160 million on Interstate 20, with two of the projects in Nolan and Howard Counties. Both counties are due west of Abilene. One project in Howard County is in conjunction with the just-competed U.S. 87 South, and consists of lowering I-20 to offer adequate clearance for the overpass.

In Abilene, more than $60 million worth of projects include replacing and widening the I-20 bridge at SH 351, and “mill-and-fill” projects in Nolan, Howard and Callahn Counties. Mill and fill removes approximately two inches of current surface, and replacing it with new asphalt. Meanwhile, east of Abilene, a $17 million project between Eastland and Ranger, TX will lead to new pavement and safety rest areas.
