Two Washington Firms Ranked on NMHC’s List of Top 50 Largest MF Owners

A pair of Pacific Northwest apartment companies were recognized by the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) on its 2020 NMHC 50, the sector’s chief ranking of the nation’s largest apartment owners, managers, developers, builders and syndicators. Kirkland-based Weidner Apartment Homes is ranked No. 14, while Seattle-based Security Properties made its debut on the 31st annual edition of the rankings, coming in at No. 44.

Weidner has 56,262 units in its portfolio, while Security Properties has 25,120 units. The largest apartment owner in the country is Tennessee-based MAA, with 100,031 units. On the 2020 managers list, Seattle-based Avenue5 Residential was ranked No. 15, while Weidner came in ranked 25th.

Security Properties’ Dan Byrnes says, “We are currently the sponsor of choice in our target markets for over 30 institutional equity partners, and that would not be possible without years of significant contributions from team members across our entire platform.” Security Properties’ sustained growth in recent years is attributed to an outstanding team that places acute emphasis on the resident experience.
