TV Station NTD Buys Chelsea Office Building for $31M

Epoch Media’s TV arm, New Tang Dynasty (NTD), bought 129 West 29th Street in Chelsea for $31 million from Samson Management. Samson purchased it for $54 million in 2012 from Thor Equities.

Founded by John Tang, The Epoch Times and NTD saw a resurgence during the 2020 presidential campaign, raising $8.4 million while covering topics like COVID-19 vaccines and QAnon. NTD positions itself as an “independent voice.” Its current NY office is at 229 West 28th Street. Broker involvement in the acquisition is unclear.

NTD’s acquisition is part of a trend of tenants buying Manhattan property. Luxury brands like Prada and Gucci’s parent company Kering recently bought significant Fifth Avenue space, contributing substantially to the borough’s Q1 commercial sales volume.
