Tuffy’s Returning to Southeast Texas

A long-time vacant building at the intersection of State Highways 12 and 62 in Mauriceville, TX, will re-open in May as Tuffy’s restaurant. Tuffy’s opened in 1985, and was run by Janet and James Linscomb who, in turn, sold the business to Mike Hamilton in 1990. Restauranteur Van Choate, who ran the restaurant with wife Josette in 2005 and sold it in 2010, will be opening the new Tuffy’s, which closed down in 2010.

Tuffy’s was famous for its fresh rolls, southern staples such as chicken-fried steak, and “mile-high” meringue pies. Choate said that the drive to Mauriceville requires effort for those who don’t live close. “So we’re going to make it worthwhile,” Choate told the Beaumont Enterprise.
