Trump Cuts Funding for Sanctuary Cities

President Trump has issued an executive order threatening to cut federal funding for cities that shield undocumented immigrants from deportation. New York is one of the largest of these “sanctuary cities,” and it receives billions of dollars through federal programs.

The fight over this executive order began immediately. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio  vowed to resist the order, along with New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman.

“The President lacks the constitutional authority to cut off funding to states and cities simply because they have lawfully acted to protect immigrant families,” said Schneiderman. “I urge President Trump to revoke this Executive Order right away. If he does not, I will do everything in my power to fight it.”
