Legacy sports park gets new owners, name

Troubled Phoenix-Area Sports Park Changes Hands, Name

Legacy Sports Park is no more. The embattled multi-platform sports facility has new owners and a new name. AZ Athletic Associates bought the 320-acre sports complex out of bankruptcy for $25.8 million. It will be called Arizona Athletic Grounds at Mesa Campus, or AAG. AAG was the only bidder.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports the sports complex is one of the largest sporting venues in the United States, with dozens of facilities – including a 3,000-seat outdoor stadium, a 2,800-seat indoor arena, 35 soccer/lacrosse/football fields, 57 indoor volleyball courts, eight baseball and softball fields, 20 basketball courts and more.

Almost all of the $25.8 million went to pay off creditors, mechanics liens and professional fees from the bankruptcy process, making the sale free and clear of liens.
